New program rewards EV drivers for charging smarter while helping support grid reliability in TEP’s service territory

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — August 4, 2026 — WeaveGrid, a grid-edge orchestration software provider for electric utilities, and Tucson Electric Power (TEP) recently launched TEP Smart Charge, a new managed charging program designed to help Southern Arizona EV drivers save money while supporting a more reliable local grid.

Built for Southern Arizona's Growing Electrification Needs

As EV adoption climbs across TEP's service territory, unmanaged home charging adds new, often unpredictable demand to a grid that must also handle some of the highest summer cooling loads in the country. Smart Charge gives TEP a way to shift charging away from periods of peak demand without asking customers to change their routines. Each time a driver plugs in, WeaveGrid's software builds a charging schedule around their departure time, battery needs, and TEP's rate structure, timing charging to the moments that make the most sense for both the driver and the grid. Drivers can always override a scheduled charging session if they need power sooner.

Leveraging Direct, Authorized Device Integrations

TEP Smart Charge is available to residential customers with an eligible Tesla vehicle or a qualifying home charging station from ChargePoint, Wallbox, or Emporia, with more eligible devices coming soon. 

WeaveGrid connects to each device through trusted, authorized integrations with leading vehicle and charger manufacturers. These official commercial partnerships ensure reliable, secure device control as enrollment grows, while always keeping driver data private and protected.

A Fast Path From Kickoff to Launch

WeaveGrid and TEP moved from kickoff to program launch in just six weeks, reflecting both the flexibility of WeaveGrid's platform and close coordination between the two teams throughout planning and testing.

‍Simple Enrollment, Built to Scale

Enrolling takes just a few minutes at charge.weavegrid.com/tep. Customers create a WeaveGrid account and connect an eligible vehicle or home charging station. Once approved, customers receive a confirmation email and WeaveGrid will begin to optimize their home charging schedule around driver preferences, grid conditions, and cost. Customers can earn a $20 enrollment incentive and up to $10 monthly bill credits that will appear automatically on their TEP account.

Beyond an upfront enrollment incentive, customers receive a personalized dashboard showing home charging costs and habits, automatic charging optimization that runs in the background, and monthly bill credits for participating.

Part of a Growing National Network

The TEP Smart Charge launch builds on WeaveGrid's expanding footprint across the country. WeaveGrid now supports utilities serving more than 50% of EVs in the United States, with programs spanning managed charging, battery orchestration, and other distributed energy resource (DER) load management.
