SAN FRANCISCO, CA – June 2, 2025 – WeaveGrid, a leading provider of electric vehicle charging optimization software, today announced its partnership with Duquesne Light Company (DLC) to launch the Smart Charging Rewards Program. This innovative managed charging initiative enables residential electric vehicle drivers in Western Pennsylvania to earn up to $80 per year while automatically optimizing their charging patterns to support grid reliability during peak summer demand periods.

The Smart Charging Rewards Program leverages WeaveGrid's intelligent software platform to coordinate EV charging with grid conditions, allowing participants to earn $20 per month from June through September by participating in at least half of each month's Smart Charging events. The program represents a significant step forward in utility-managed charging, transforming EVs from potential grid stressors into valuable grid assets.

How the Smart Charging Rewards Program Works

To enroll, customers create a WeaveGrid account at weavegrid.com/dlc and connect their eligible vehicle or home charging station. The program operates through a simple three-step process designed to maximize convenience for EV drivers:

1. Register for Alerts: Participants receive notifications via text or email up to 24 hours before Smart Charging events, which typically occur between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays during the summer months.

2. Pause Charging: During Smart Charging events, participating vehicles automatically pause charging for up to six hours before resuming. Drivers retain full control and can opt out of any event if they need immediate charging.

3. Earn Rewards: Participants receive $20 for each month they participate in at least half of the Smart Charging events, with potential annual earnings of up to $80. Rewards are distributed as gift cards via email the month following participation.

The program is available to Tesla vehicle owners and drivers with compatible home charging stations from ChargePoint (Home Flex CPH25 and CPH50), Wallbox (Pulsar Plus), and Emporia (all EV charger models). All participants must use Level 2 (240V) charging stations to be eligible.

Addressing Peak Summer Demand While Rewarding Participation

The Smart Charging Rewards Program directly addresses one of the utility industry's most pressing challenges: managing increased electricity demand during peak summer hours when air conditioning usage and EV charging typically coincide. By incentivizing EV drivers to shift their charging away from these critical periods, the program helps reduce strain on the electrical grid while maintaining driver convenience and vehicle readiness.

The program offers EV customers a simplified charging experience and the opportunity to earn incentives, while helping DLC gain a better understanding of how electric vehicle charging impacts their grid. This initiative transforms electric vehicles into flexible grid assets, supporting the utility's commitment to reliable and affordable electricity for all customers.

The program is structured to be completely risk-free for participants, with the ability to opt out at any time.
