Technical Product Manager

About us

WeaveGrid builds software to make it cheaper and safer for utilities to serve electric vehicles, add renewable energy resources, and save customers money. Our mission is to drive rapid decarbonization in the global transport and power sectors by intelligently connecting electric vehicles to the grid.

We are currently in market with early utility clients, and we must rapidly build and deliver product improvements to serve existing customers and win new deals from our deep pipeline. As a rapidly growing company, we are building a thoughtful, capable team that can adapt with our rapidly evolving circumstances.

Industry context

We are living through historic changes in the ways people use transportation — a sector that is now one of the largest and fastest-growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions.

Electric vehicle (EV) sales are growing at over 60% a year, with vehicle manufacturers spending billions to get ready for an electric future. Boston Consulting Group estimates EVs will account for over half of all vehicle sales by 2030. Electric utilities see massive opportunities in this transformation, as the rise of EVs could drive more growth in energy demand over the next 10 years than any decade since the 1950s.

‍Larger EV fleets can also help support renewable energy sources on the grid. But to accommodate growth in EVs, utilities will need to make substantial investments in infrastructure and technology. Weave Grid's software helps meet the challenge of our transition to electrified transport.

Culture and mission

Beyond your core skills and track record, you are someone who will expand the culture and cumulative wisdom of the team as a whole. This can take many forms - relevant past projects, hard-won perspective from personal history, an unusual or adjacent skillset, a motivating passion, and so on. We are whole individuals, not just functional role-fillers, and we value everything that you can bring to the team.

Finally, you should be strongly motivated by Weave Grid’s mission. Energy and transportation expertise are not necessary, but it is important that you are passionate about tackling the climate crisis head on, by improving societal and environmental health.

Compensation and location

We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible. Compensation will include competitive salary, equity, and benefits. Weave Grid is based in San Francisco but is open to considering remote candidates in the US for some roles.

About The Role

WeaveGrid’s business is built on data products that integrate and mediate the needs of a diverse set of external stakeholders. This role will be responsible for the product development of one or more of the company’s core systems, ensuring that the capabilities of our electric vehicle charge management platform evolve to support the growth of our business.

This role will require deft translation between business objectives and the performance properties of data-driven and machine learning-based software. This will entail frequent code switching to communicate effectively with a range of team members, including the leaders of other product teams, software engineers and data scientists, our connected drivers, connected vehicle automakers and utility solutions teams, and functional leaders across the business.

Aside from these specifics, this role will comprise the core activities of enterprise SaaS product management, including maintaining the strategic product roadmap, scoping features, prioritizing backlog, documenting and demonstrating features, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to continuously refine the product and process.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scrum team members on the design, definition, documentation and implementation of new capabilities and performance properties
  • Partner closely with other product leaders and their teams to integrate and harmonize the needs of their stakeholders and users
  • Work hand in hand with technical leads to identity and prioritize potential approaches, manage risks, and allocate resources to product development
  • Maintain a well-groomed backlog in Jira to enable efficient and properly-prioritized development sprints
  • Prepare and maintain the corresponding areas of the company’s overall product roadmap
  • Serve as the internal and external subject matter expert for product offerings, working with Sales, Marketing and Client Success groups
  • Support strategic initiatives and other duties as needed to ensure product success

About You

You have experience in product management for products whose requirements are expressed largely in terms of their performance along various technical metrics; relevant past projects might include developer tools, data products based on machine learning, or real-time data processing systems. You may have worked in the transportation or energy domains, but this is not a requirement.

You have a solid grounding in quantitative and analytical methods, though you are always drawn to frame questions and results in the language of the current audience. You are motivated by performance and outcomes, rather than the application or exploration of technology for its own sake.

You are a team player, committed to helping colleagues and accomplishing shared goals. You seek out compelling evidence for your decisions, although you are willing to act under uncertainty and adapt quickly to emerging market signals.

You are excited to build products and systems that power high-impact solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in the climate crisis. Infrastructure is not a dirty word for you, but rather one of the most exciting realms in which to make a positive difference. You share the WeaveGrid team’s commitment to achieving outcomes that support the shift to electrified transport and a decarbonized electric grid.
